“The Year of the Tiger: What's Love Got to Do With It?”
- Comedy Improv Show by People’s Liberation Improv, February 5
Hong Kong celebrates Valentine’s Day AND the beginning of the Year of the Tiger in mid-February, so who could resist the temptation to make fun of that love machine, Mr Tiger Woods? Local comedy improvisation troupe People’s Liberation Improv (PLI) invites everyone to join in the joking at its next show, “The Year of the Tiger: What's Love Got to Do With It?”, on Friday February 5 at the TakeOut Comedy Club in SoHo.
Mr Chris Coleman, the driving force behind PLI, commented: “We’ve invited the soon-to-be-ex Mrs Tiger Woods to be the celebrity spokesperson for our February show. She hasn’t responded yet, but we’re confident she’ll be sympathetic to our cause.”
A highlight of PLI’s February 5 show will be a guest appearance by professional American stand-up comedian Mr Wali Collins in some of the improvisation games. He will be in Hong Kong performing solo stand-up shows on February 4, 5 and 6 as part of the third-anniversary celebrations of the TakeOut Comedy Club (see www.takeoutcomedy.com). Wali has appeared on “The David Letterman Show”, “Comedy Central” and “The Chappelle Show”. See www.walicollins.com

PLI’s 90-minute comedy improvisation shows consist of 10-12 scenes made up on the spot (yes, honestly!), prompted by audience suggestions about characters, situations, locations, dilemmas, crises, relationships, unfortunate personality quirks, bizarre household objects, memorable lines from movies… Each show usually ends with a free-form improvisation, an extended set of crazily interconnected scenes inspired by a one-word suggestion from an audience member. The comedy improvisation genre was made popular by the TV show “Whose Line is it Anyway?”.
PLI usually performs on the first Friday of every month at 9.30pm (and sometimes other dates/times too) at the TakeOut Comedy Club, the first full-time comedy club not only in Hong Kong, but in Asia. For more information about the TakeOut Comedy Club, visit www.takeoutcomedy.com.
PLI had its successful international debut with a performance at the Portal Wine Bar in Macau on August 26, 2009. Comment on this event in our FORUM. Save GingerGuide To My MemberArea |
